Figures from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics show that 305 deaths of Kenyan citizens were registered last year up from 270 in 2023.

The number of Kenyans who died while living or working abroad rose by 13 percent in 2024, according to newly released data from the Kenya Vital Statistics Report.

Figures from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics show that 305 deaths of Kenyan citizens were registered last year up from 270 in 2023. Of these, 184 were men, accounting for just over 60 percent, while women made up the remaining 121 cases.

The highest number of deaths was reported in the United States, which recorded 71 Kenyan fatalities, followed by India with 50 and Uganda with 22.

Other countries with notable numbers included the United Kingdom (19), Tanzania (18), Saudi Arabia and South Africa (15 each), the United Arab Emirates (14), Qatar (12), and Canada (8). An additional 61 deaths were reported from other nations.

Age-wise, the highest number of deaths occurred among Kenyans aged 50–54, with 38 cases. The fewest deaths just two were registered in the 20 24 age group. No fatalities were recorded in the 5–9 and 10–19 age brackets.

While male deaths outnumbered female deaths in most categories, exceptions were noted in three age groups: 30–34, 50–54, and 65–69, where female deaths slightly exceeded male fatalities.

The data was drawn from Form BDA2 of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (CRVSS), which tracks deaths and causes of death for Kenyan nationals who die abroad.

The annual report also captures vital data on births, marriages, and adoptions, which government officials say is essential for demographic monitoring, health policy planning, and broader socioeconomic development.
